1) Assistant Secretary of State for Consular Affairs’ visit to Mexico (07.19.21-07.23.21) Learn more
Institutional context - The Bureau of Consular Affairs (CA) is part of the U.S. Department of State, and is responsible for the welfare and protection of U.S. citizens abroad, the issuance of passports and other documentation for citizens and nationals, the protection of U.S. border security, and the facilitation of legitimate travel to the United States. In February 2019, Ian G. Brownlee became the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Consular Affairs.
Assistant Secretary Brownlee’s visit to Mexico - Acting Assistant Secretary of State for Consular Affairs, Ian G. Brownlee, traveled to Nogales and Ciudad Juárez, Mexico; Tucson, Arizona; and El Paso, Texas, from July 19th-23rd. In Tucson and El Paso he oversaw the U.S. passport facility operations and met with staff. In Nogales and Ciudad Juárez, he oversaw the consular operations and met with consular staff.

Institutional context - The last time the U.S. High-Level Delegation visited Mexico was in 2018, with Mike Pompeo as the U.S Secretary of State accompanied by the Senior Advisor to the President Jared Kushner, Secretary of Homeland Security Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen, and Secretary of the Treasury Steven Mnuchin.
AMLO - U.S. High-Level Delegation Meeting - On August 10th, 2021, Mexican President, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, accompanied by the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Marcelo Ebrard, hosted the U.S. Delegation. During the meeting, the functionaries discussed the continuation of the High Level Economic Dialogue (HLED) and a possible meeting between the Mexican and American Presidents.
3) United States - Mexico High Level Economic Dialogue (08.17.21) Learn more
Institutional context - The High Level Economic Dialogue (HLED) between the United States and Mexico is a binational mechanism of dialogue created in 2013 by Presidents Barack Obama and Enrique Peña Nieto. This mechanism is directed at advancing economic and trade priorities to promote economic growth, job creation, and global competitiveness for Mexico and the United States. The High Level Economic Dialogue meets once a year at the cabinet level. Through this mechanism, a variety of bilateral dialogues and working groups are promoted.
AMLO - U.S Senators Meeting - On August 17th, 2021, Foreign Secretary, Marcelo Ebrard, confirmed that the HLED will take place on September 9th, 2021 in Washington, D.C. to address both nation’s strategic economic and trade priorities. The meeting will be attended by senior officials from both countries. Mexico will be represented by the Secretaries of Economy and Foreign Affairs, and senior officials from the Finance Ministry. Other agencies will join the delegation closer to the date.

Institutional context - The HLED provides a strategic, measurable, and goal-oriented platform for the United States and Mexico to advance economic and social priorities central to fostering regional prosperity, expanding job creation, promoting investment, and reducing inequality and poverty.
AMLO - U.S Senators Meeting - The U.S. - Mexico HLED cabinet-level annual meeting was relaunched on September 9th, in Washington D.C. by American Vice President, Kamala Harris. The four pillars of the HELD's joint vision are: building back together; promoting sustainable economic and social development in Southern Mexico and Central America; securing the tools for future prosperity; and investing in our people.
