Los Angeles Declaration of Migration and Protection at the White House
September 26, 2022
Institutional Context
The Los Angeles Declaration on Migration and Protection was presented at the Summit of the Americas in June 2022. The Declaration seeks to mobilize the entire region around bold actions that will transform the approach to managing migration in the Americas. The Declaration is organized around four key pillars: stability and assistance for communities; expansion of legal pathways; humane migration management; and coordinated emergency response.
Los Angeles Declaration of Migration and Protection at the White House
In follow-up to the Los Angeles Declaration on Migration and Protection, the White House called a regional meeting to follow up on the commitments then presented by each country on September 26th. In addition, representatives from each nation discussed a new framework for implementing the Los Angeles Declaration.
At the meeting, it was agreed that Mexico would coordinate the working group on labor mobility, where dialogue will be held on new work routes that offer alternatives to irregular migration. Similarly, Mexico will participate in three working groups: the first focused on the resettlement of refugees; the second, on family reunification measures and alternative migration routes; and the third dedicated to fighting against xenophobia.
